The litmus test of successful design is how it makes you feel. It is a very personal experience. When you first see a space, do you want to enter it and stay awhile?  Does it make you inquisitive, or draw you in? Is it irresistible but you can’t quite put your finger on why? When successfully accomplished, what makes that space so nourishing is indiscernible, yet powerful.

It’s about comfort of living, combining form and function, one being as important as the other and always keeping in mind the personal aesthetic. It is important to live with what speaks to you. While style is about you, design incorporates fundamental principles, such as balance, scale, proportion, color, line.

Good design has a sense of discovery.

“Ellen has a strong talent for spatially visualizing the best layout for a room and being able to implement it into a functioning space. Beauty is one thing but a space also needs to have functionality. Ellen succeeds in both aspects! Working with her to completely renovate and re-design my office, I am so appreciative of her insights and her determination that my office be my special retreat.”
